How the MB Ryder Cup Standings system works

The MB Ryder Cup team is made up 16 players. All SCC Golf Society members can enter into the tournament to try and get into the team.

There are 12 automatic places. The other 4 places will be Captains wild card picks.

Entry into the MB Ryder Cup will run from 1st August 2011 until 2nd April 2012.
Qualification for the MB Ryder Cup team will run from 1st August 2011 until 28th May 2012.

This is so that once entry is closed on 2nd April 2012, all the players who have their name down have a chance of making it into the team. There cannot be a late entry who will knock an automatic qualifier out at the last minute.

Throughout the 9 months players who compete at the SCC Tour tournaments will get Ranking points. As they move up and down the SCC Tour Rankings, so they will move up and down the MB Ryder Cup Standings table.
The Total Pts column shows how many SCC Tour Ranking points the players have. The Proj. Loss column shows how many points the player will lose after the next tournament. Players not wishing to drop out of the team, should enter the next tournament and hope that their updated points total is still greater than their nearest challenger for their place.

The top 12 players on 28th May 2012 have gained automatic entry into the MB Ryder Cup 2012

The playing Captain will then announce his 4 wild card picks on 1st June 2012.

The Merrist Stableford is the final tournament in which player can hope to gain automatic entry into the MB Ryder Cup Team. Players who have the last few automatic places in the team hope to put in a good performance to secure their place. Whilst those just outside automatic entry could put in a good showing and knock a player out.

If you haven't made the automatic places on 28th May 2012, you will have to rely on one of the Captain's 4 wild card picks.

Note: The Captain is automatically in the team in No.1 spot. So if you feel you may not make the top 12, you may wish to apply to become the Captain and secure your place in the team.
