Home to the SCC Tour
We are a friendly Sunday Golf Society which plays golf tournaments throughout Kent, Surrey & Sussex. Join the SCC Golf Society and compete on the SCC Tour for a chance to become The Southern Counties Cup Champion.
SCC Tour Season
In the past we used to play from January to November each year. But we decided to finish our season in the Summer so our Season Finale would incorporate a barbecue style celebratory meal prior to the SCC Champion being crowned. So the 2009-2010 season brought about a change in our season dynamics. We started in January 2009 and finished in June 2010. From the 2010-2011 season we start in around mid June and finish early June the follow year. There is a short winter break from around the last weekend of November to the last weekend of January. This is due to the light failing mid to late afternoons.
SCC Tournaments
We play a total of 16 Swing tournaments each year split into four Swings. The Summer Swing, The Autumn Swing, The Winter Swing and The Spring Swing. Add to that our four SCC Majors, The Season Finale, The Winter Team Trophy and the MB Ryder Cup, we play a total of around 23 tournaments each year.
SCC Tour Swings
Although we have an extensive schedule, we understand that our members have commitments at the weekend, so may not be able to make many tournaments. Instead of having a season long Order of Merit, which penalises those who cannot make every tournament we developed the Swings. Each Swing is divided into four tournaments. Players compete on the Swing Order of Merit over these four tournaments. Once a Swing is completed the points are reset back to zero and all the players compete for the next Swing. The winner of each Swing is entered into The Swing Finale tournament taking place during The Season Finale tournament. The winner of the Swing Finale tournament will be crowned The Southern Counties Cup Champion.
SCC Majors
The four SCC Majors are, The SCC Masters. 36 hole strokeplay tournament. This is the only event on the SCC Tour that is a strokeplay event. The 36 holes are played on the same day. From the 2010-2011 season this event will be played off 3/4 handicaps.
The SCC Invitational. 36 hole stableford tournament played over 2 days, with a overnight stay in a hotel. This is a great event on the SCC Tour calendar. We usually play outside our normal counties. In the past we have played at The Belfry, Woodhall Spa, St Mellion & Celtic Manor to name but a few.
The SCC Matchplay. Singles knockout matchplay tournament played over the whole season. Players are drawn against each other and decide whether to play their match at a mutally agreed course or they can choose to play at the same time as an SCC Tour Swing event.
The Foxbridge Season Classic. Hosted at Foxbridge Golf Club for the final round. This SCC Major first three rounds are played over The Summer Swing, The Autumn Swing & The Winter Swing, with players choosing one tournament from each swing to represent their round. Each play must declare the round before they play, so the pressure is on to perform. The final round at Foxbridge Golf Club is played off 3/4 handicaps. The winner of The Foxbridge Season Classic not only receives the winners trophy, but Foxbridge Golf Club kindly donate a coveted Foxbridge Polo Shirt. Our equivalent of The Green Jacket. The winners of each major are entered into The SCC Players Championship at the Season Finale.
MB Ryder Cup
The MB Ryder Cup is a team matchplay event in which the SCC Golf Society play against another society. Since 2008 we have played against TeeOff Golf Society. This event involves 36 holes of matchplay in the same day. We play fourballs in the morning, then after lunch we play singles. There are 16 players on each team. SCC won in 2008 with a score of 14.5pts-9.5pts. We won again in 2009 with a score of 14pts-10pts. Each side chooses the venues on alternative years. It is a highlight of the SCC Calendar as TeeOff GS help make this such a great day.
The Season Finale
This is where the whole season culminates to a crescendo. The Season Finale tournament is a tournament in its own right, with all the players competing for the trophy. At the same time there are tournaments within the tournament.
The Swing winners battle it out in The Swing Finale. The player with the best stableford score on the day of the Swing winners becomes crowned The Southern Counties Cup Champion.
The SCC Major winners vie against each other for The SCC Players Championship, where those entered into this tournament must shoot the most stableford points to take the title.
The day finishes with a barbecue (weather permitting) and the celebrations. Where the Season Finale winners receive their trophy. The Swing winners receive their Swing trophies. The SCC Players Champion receives their trophy and The Southern Counties Cup Champion is crowned.
SCC Handicaps
We use HandicapMaster™ software to calculate our handicaps. This is used by many clubs and societies and uses the CONGU system. New members without handicaps submit 3 cards to obtain their SCC Handicap. Club members with an official handicap submit 1 qualifying card. With over 20 tournaments each year, players handicaps are very accurate.
Come Along
We are always welcoming new members to the SCC Golf Society and it only costs £15.00 per year for membership. Our members handicaps range from 12 to 28, so we have a great mix of standards. It is a fun way to have a bit of tournament play and play lots of different courses over the year. It doesn't matter if you're already a member of a club or not, many of our members also belong to a golf club. Or if you are new to golf, or just getting back into it after some time away from the game. We look forward to meeting you.
If you are ready to join, click on the Join SCC link at the top of the page.
